Environmental Terrorism

Debra Saunders, one of the columnists I regularly read in order to receive a balanced viewpoint, is once again touting her version of environmental terrorism.

She, again, is wrong on an important issue affecting billions of people.  She appears to question man’s contribution to global warming.  She is actually claiming the Earth isn’t warming.  Usually, skeptics argue the Earth is warming due to natural causes beyond the control of humans.  She just blatantly lies and seems to indicate the Earth isn’t even warming.  In fact, in the past 15 years or so, we have seen the hottest annual temperatures ever recorded.  She claims that adjustments to NASA records actually showed 1934 was actually hotter than 1998 and 2005, which are in a virtual tie for hottest years on record.  But, what she fails to reveal is that this is a United States anomaly.  1934 is the hottest year on record in the United States, but that is like saying because Dumbfuck, Alabama, sets a new record low temperature on one particular July morning, climate change is bunk.  Why do some Americans think the world starts and ends within our borders?  Regardless of those change to NASA records, 1998 and 2005 are still the hottest years on record globally, not 1934.  A good book to read on the entire subject is The Hot Topic by Gabrielle Walker and Sir David King.  They are much more reliable than conservative kingpin Debra Saunders.

I’m so tired of conservatives lying or deceiving in order to build up their side of the truth.  Does it really build up their sense of self worth to use lies and deception to win an argument?  Look no further than money to determine a Conservative’s motivation.  Republicans represent industry, corporate America, defense contractors, polluters, and big money.  All those entities have a vested interest in polluting as much as possible.  All those entities contribute vast piles of cash to the GOP.  Liberals represent the air you breathe, the water you drink, the animals and plants increasingly dependent on us for their survival, etc.  There is no cash to be found in those constituencies.

Debra Saunders is this weeks #1 environmental terrorist for lies and deception aimed at maintaining the status quo for poisoning our environment and children.  Congratulations!!!

Introducing The Liberal Rag

The “Liberal Rag.”

The title fits my political leanings.  I have classified myself as a liberal for nearly twenty years.  I took pride in the moniker even when it was used as a term of derision by right-wingers.  My earliest beliefs, ideas, and thoughts were formed at a liberal-arts school in Minnesota as a Government major.  I was an average student, which most likely will result in rather pedestrian ramblings here.

My earliest political heroes were Paul Wellstone and Al Gore.  During the nineties, I desperately wished the Vice-President would just take over for Clinton, who I refused to vote for in 1996 (instead I wrote in Wellstone).  Clinton just never fit well with my idealism or liberalism.

I’m encouraged by Obama, but again I am hesitant that he won’t lean far enough to the left (despite the McCain-Palin accusations that he is Karl Marx incarnate).  But, any move away from the ultra-right wing, which has been in control of nearly the entire federal government for the past eight years, may just ensure radical and necessary changes.

The “Rag” portion of the title does not fit quite so well in this medium.  I’ve always fancied myself a writer.  I’ve always loved newspapers and periodicals.  I read anything and everything I could get my hands on, as long as it contained the tiniest bit of political news.  That includes The Nation, National Review, New Republic, Star Tribune, New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, etc.  As you can tell, I even love to read those opinions and articles roasting “my side.”  So, I read everyone, including Maureen Dowd, George Will, Clarence Page, Thomas Sowell, Thomas Friedman, Jonah Goldberg, Paul Krugman, Kathleen Parker, David Brooks, the late Molly Ivins, etc.

I’ve only been a recent convert to the electronic forum.  I love to have the feel of a paper in my hand.  It’s as if I read with my fingers as much as my eyes.  My writings are generally done with pen and paper, not keys and monitors.  So, the “Rag” is what this blog is titled…to reflect my history, preferences, and love.

The crystal ball is showing Obama’s face.  It looks like we are taking a leftward turn, finally.  I intend to use this forum to keep his feet to the fire.  I intend to flail wildly at any Democrats who don’t intend to pull their weight.  I do not want a centrist, which I fear is what we are receiving in Obama.  I’m hoping for a landslide.  I want the Republicans held firmly and securely on their backs, a liberal’s foot on their collective throats.  Every decision made for the next four years (hopefully eight) must consider the consequences of such actions over the next 30, 40, 50, 60, 70-years.  My two-year old daughter and her future progeny deserve nothing less.

You have to move forward to find the future.
